Diabetes Action

Half the Services, Half the Care

Do you, a family member or friend have type 1 or type 2 diabetes? Have you been informed about the latest technology or medicine for your child with diabetes? Have you had your feet checked or your eyes examined in the last year?

If your answer is ‘no’ then you are receiving only half the services or care you need. Diabetes Action is running an advocacy campaign called ‘Half the Services – Half the Care’ to highlight the fact that people with diabetes only receive half the services they need.

Diabetes Action is an advocacy group formed by representatives from the Diabetes Federation of Ireland, the Diabetes Section of the Irish Endocrine Society (IES) and the Irish Diabetes Nurse Specialist Association (IDNSA).

Diabetes Actions has decided to campaign for enhanced and targeted health services for people with diabetes. Our 2 year campaign, which commenced in September 2010, will cover 8 specific health issues (1 every three months including podiatry, retinopathy and paediatric care) to highlight the lack of services, the under resourcing of preventative care and to offer cost saving, practical alternatives.

The central message of our campaign is that people with diabetes are not helped sufficiently by general health policies; people with diabetes need additional, targeted services.

If the correct policies are implemented, we can dramatically improve the health of people with diabetes and save hundreds of millions of Euros in funding over the next 10 years
