Become a Diabetes Advocate
What is advocacy and what does it have to do with diabetes?
Advocacy in the context of health-care broadly refers to actions which
aim to promote health and access to health care. Advocacy work supports
and promotes the rights of the patient in the health-care environment, is
often involved in build capacity to improve community health and in influencing
health policy initiatives focused on available, safe and quality care.

Diabetes Action’s advocacy work seeks to influence public health policy in Ireland to ensure that scarce resources in diabetes care are strategically and efficiently directed to benefit of the maximum number of people with diabetes as possible.
Individuals and advocacy:
Diabetes Action works on the principle of representation, working with
and on behalf of patients, nurses and consultants. Some of our campaigns
involve direct political lobbying of TDs and Senators, during which this
web-site acts as a tool for contacting your local representatives about
diabetes care.
When you send an e-mail to your TD about diabetes care through our site, you become an advocate for diabetes and your voice strengthens Diabetes Action’s advocacy work.
Being a Diabetes Advocate is an easy way make your voice heard and to help ensure that government policies are framed to benefit the health and well-being of people with diabetes. You can support Diabetes Action by becoming an advocate for better planned and resourced health services for people with diabetes.
Register to become an advocate for diabetes below; we will contact you by e-mail the next time we run a direct lobbying campaign.
We ask all our advocates to support our campaigns by sending an e-mail to their local political representatives about services in their area and asking them to influence national health policy to bring improvement in your locality.
